You Get What You Get And You Don’t Throw a Fit!

This is a favorite line of our boys, it comes from their preschool and is probably said on a daily basis. Andrea is aware of this, though she’s more accustomed to being on the delivery side of the equation. We remedied that this weekend.

Mateo is a remarkable five year old, always making us smile and laugh and surprising us with new ideas and a world view from the 46 inch perspective. Sunday’s idea was nicknames. He decided that I should be called Bubby, not sure why and not sure it’s a good thing, but I played along. Mateo is very fair, so he told me to give him a nickname. I chose Scrubby- it follows the theme and rhyming is always a bonus. We now turn our attention to Lucas and his name is known a priori, it’s just a given, without discussion.

For the first two years of his life, Lucas was called Puppy more than Lucas. Mateo wanted another puppy and when he didn’t receive one, decided that he would anoint his brother as a surrogate puppy. This was cute and when Andrea wasn’t home, he would lead Lucas around with a makeshift puppy leash, re-purposed from her bathrobe.

This was fine until one day I was getting a glass of water only to feel Lucas brushing up against my leg, crawling on all fours, complete with a ball in his mouth, specifically, one of the balls we throw for the real puppies in the house. Not wanting to disappoint, I did throw it for him a few times, though I made sure to wash it well first {grin}. But I digress, Lucas would certainly be called Pubby.

With the Three Musketeers named: Scrubby, Pubbby & Bubby, who then are we missing? Ah yes, Andrea. Following suit, we allow Lucas to nickname Andrea. And for the next 36 hours, the most frequently heard phrase in the Artisan household was “I am NOT Tubby!”.

That should teach her to be last in line. The adventures of Scrubby, Pubbby, Bubby & “I am NOT Tubby”. I love that children can laugh at the same thing again and again, Tubby has yet to wear out its welcome (well, at least with The Musketeers) and laughter is contagious.
